John Daniel and Willy Vlautin Take Oregon Book Awards

John Daniel, a Terra Communications author, won the Sarah Winnemucca Award for Creative Nonfiction. The Far Corner: Northwestern Views on Land, Life, and Literature brings together a collection of essays and one poem on the rivers and forests of the Pacific Northwest, a life of writing, and on the lives of Ken Kesey and Wallace Stegner.  Previously, John Daniel won Oregon Book Awards for Looking After: A Son’s Memoir and The Trail Home: Nature, Imagination, and the American West. In the interests of diversifying his achievements, Daniel also won a PNBA Book Award for Rogue River Journal: A Winter Alone in 2006.

Willy Vlautin, also an author with Terra Communications, swept both the Ken Kesey Award for Fiction and the new Readers’ Choice Award, both for his latest novel, Lean on Pete.
